Do you
snore heavily or know someone who does? If so, there’s a
high chance that sleep apnea is the cause.
Sleep apnea is a much more serious problem than most
people realize.
While sleeping, apnea sufferers’ airway literally
collapses. Some stop breathing for 20-30 seconds and
then wake up gasping, coughing, snorting, and then fall
back asleep again. This cycle can occur up to 50-60
times in an hour, and often the sufferer will have no
memory of it. The stress of it alone can damage the
heart and other organs.
Sleep Apnea
is a fairly new area for dentistry to be involved in,
but its causes are easily treatable through a simple
dentistry procedure.
As an
alternative to the standard CPAP solution, we can create
a device that’s custom-made to each patient’s bite. It
alleviates apnea symptoms by bringing the jaw forward to
open the airway and prevent the tongue from collapsing
back into the airway.
The same
device can help treat snoring so both you and your
significant other can once again enjoy a good night’s
sleep.
* Please Note: Nelson Dentistry cannot perform a sleep
study or diagnose sleep apnea. We can treat snoring, but
we cannot treat sleep apnea without a physician’s approval.
