Neuromuscular principles apply to full and partial dentures as well. As people wear dentures for several years, the bone the denture rests on erodes away. As the bone disappears and the denture wears, the person’s jaw can “overclose,” resulting in a wrinkled, saggy appearance. By restoring the bite to the original dimensions, a dramatically more youthful look results as well as a much better chewing function.
